Training Centre

1. METROWATER TRAINING CENTRE

Metrowater, as a part of capacity building exercise had established its Staff Training Centre during the year 1982, and is situated at No.56, Raji Street, Ayanavaram, Chennai - 23 (adjoining the Kilpauk Water Treatment Plant) under the control of Engineering Director and headed by the Director in the cadre of Superintending Engineer.

Activities of Training Centre

  • To enhance the skillsets of the employees to meet the present and future challenges in their works.
  • Enhancing the skillsets of the employees and keeping them updated on technology advancements which will increase the efficiency of the organization and boost the employees own satisfaction
  • Accords permission to students and faculty members of Educational Institutions / Universities for Field Visit and In-plant training, Data/Sample Collection for their academic purpose
  • Departmental exams are being conducted every year to the staff which is mandatory for promotion to the various categories of posts
  • Preparing and updating handbooks for engineers of various departments in the Board
  • TRAINING ACTIVITIES:

    A. In-house Training:

    Metrowater Training Centre is presently conducting 41 In-house training programmes under the following 7 modules for the Board’s staff:

    • i) Operation & Maintenance Module
    • ii) Water quality Module
    • iii)Water Supply and Sewage disposal Module
    • iv)Project Management Module
    • v)Human Resource Development Module
    • vi)Financial Development Module
    • vii)Information Technology Module

    At present, the training programmes are being conducted on online mode via Google Meet in order to factor in the COVID-19 Pandemic Regulations, based on the feasibility of the course for online / offline mode

    B. CPHEEO COURSES

    Besides conducting training programmes for the staff of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board the following five CPHEEO sponsored Refresher are being conducted every year during the period from November to February for Public Health Engineers across India.

    • Care and Use of Chlorinators
    • Filter Operation
    • Laying of Water Mains and Sewer lines

    2. INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE TRAINING CENTRE

    • Air conditioned Class Rooms - 2 Nos. with 30 Nos. of seating capacity each

    • Computer Lab - 1 No. with 24 Nos. of Computers

    • Meeting Hall - 1 No. with 75 Nos. seating capacity

    • Library with a collection of about 2900 books covering Engineering. Technology, Management,Training, Finance disciplines and Computers as well as Operational manuals, specifications and ISI code are available

    • Administrative office including Dining Hall

    • Work shop I & II, Laboratory and Research lab

    • Hostel with 3 rooms of single bed & 5 rooms of double beds with A.C, Television facilities and Dining Hall

    3. In-Plant Training & Data / Sample Collection

    Permission is accorded for students of Educational Institutions / Universities who wish to attend In-plant training & Data / Sample collection for their project purpose at any of the following Board’s Treatment Plants or Administrative / Finance / Technical wings at Head Office on payment of Rs.200/- + 18% GST per head / plant / day.

    Payment may be made either through Demand Draft payable at Chennai in favour of "Resource Centre. CMWSSB" or cash payment vide Current Account No.8439201000239 in any branches of Canara Bank and the original receipt of the same along with the Bonafide Certificate from the Institution is to be submitted in person at Training Centre, Ayanavaram.

    The process of permitting the Students & Faculty members of Educational Institution / Universities for In-plant training and Data / Sample collection have been stopped since March 2020 due to COVID-19 Pandemic and was resumed from the month of October 2020, by restricting to 5 students per Batch / Day / wing, adopting COVID-19 Regulations / Procedure such as temperature screening, wearing mask, Social distancing, Hand sanitizing at the entrance of the Training Centre / other wings of CMWSSB.

    4. FIELD VISIT

    Permission is accorded for Students / Faculty members of Educational Institutions / Universities who wish to visit any of the following Board's Treatment Plants on payment of Rs.50/- per head / plant / day subject to the minimum of Rs.1,250/- + 18% GST per batch / plant (restricted to 25 students per batch).

    Payment may be made either through Demand Draft payable at Chennai in favour of "Resource Centre. CMWSSB" or cash payment vide Current Account No.8439201000239 in any branches of Canara Bank and the original receipt of the same along with the requisition letter from the Institution / University along with name list of the students for visit is to be submitted in person at Training Centre, Ayanavaram or can be sent through Post to the Training Centre address as in the Proforma given. Further only after receiving the originals said, the permissions will be accorded for field visits.

    The permission for Field Visits to the Students & Faculty members of Educational Institution / Universities to visit the Board’s Plants has been stopped since March 2020 due to COVID-19 Pandemic as a measure to avoid group gathering thereby factoring in the COVID-19 Pandemic Regulations.
